What you need
An Apple Watch with GPS and an iPhone to read your stats afterwards. FullPitch needs iOS 18 and watchOS 11 or later. You don’t need a GPS vest, and you don’t need to carry your phone on the pitch.
Option 1: Apple’s Workout app
The built-in Workout app has a Soccer workout. It records the time, your heart rate and calories, and it counts towards your Activity rings. It’s built for effort, not for football: you won’t get a map of where you played, your sprints or your top speed, and there’s no way to log a goal.
Option 2: a football app
A football app records the same workout but keeps the GPS track and turns it into football numbers. FullPitch, for example, gives you:
- Distance covered, top speed and sprint count
- Average and maximum heart rate
- A heatmap of where you spent the match
- Goals, assists and the score, tagged on your wrist as they happen
Step by step with FullPitch
- Install FullPitch on your iPhone. The Watch app comes with it; if it doesn’t appear, install it from the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Open FullPitch on your iPhone once and allow Health and location access.
- At the pitch, open FullPitch on your Watch and start the match at kick-off.
- Tag goals and assists from your wrist, and pause at half time.
- End the match at the final whistle.
- Open FullPitch on your iPhone to see your distance, top speed, sprints, heart rate and heatmap, then share your match card.
Tips for clean data
- Leave your iPhone in the changing room or the car, out of Bluetooth range, so the Watch records with its own GPS.
- Wear the Watch snug on your wrist for steady heart rate readings.
- Start at kick-off and end at the final whistle, so warm-ups and chats don’t count as playing time.
- Play outdoors: GPS doesn’t work under a roof, so indoor halls won’t give you distance or a heatmap.
